A gas log fire is a small, gas-operated heating system. It is a fireplace, installed into a single room that consists of incombustible "logs" (pebbles and coal pieces are alternative options) on top of gas vents. Are gas log fires expensive to run?

In Australia, all units need to be flued to the outside atmosphere for safety. This also makes them much more efficient than their predecessors. So essentially this makes them less expensive to run than an old gas heater. They are not the most efficient gas heaters around, but nor are they gas guzzlers. You pay a little bit more to run them for the look of them. And when you compare them to traditional wood fireplaces with the cost of firewood continuing to rise dramatically, they are not an expensive or labour intensive way to get the same cosy effect.

Can gas logs catch on fire?

By design, no. Gas logs are made of non-combustible ceramics or refractory cement. They only look like they're burning.

Can I put my TV above a gas log fire?

This is a great question and we get it a lot. The answer, it depends. We suggest that, before you begin, you advise our professional gas fitters if you plan on mounting a TV above your fireplace. That way, they can ensure they give you only a selection of units that are safe to be below a TV.
